I recently got a S95H and have been really liking it so far. The one thing that has been bothering me is the menu brightness in HDR.
It always seems to be maxed out. I did set the peak brightness to Off, which reduced it somewhat, but it’s still too bright in a dark room.
Does anybody know how I can reduce the brightness of the menu? Also of the TV OS in general, like the built-in apps. It’s all way too bright in a dark room.
In general, I’ve really struggled with the HDR brightness on this TV. I found that the brightness setting is the wrong one to use, since it crushes shadow detail and makes faces a lot dimmer.
The contrast setting seems to work as a brightness setting like I’d expect. It can control HDR highlights without crushing shadow detail. But neither affects the menu/OS brightness at all in HDR.
On most devices like a smartphone or laptop, there is just a single brightness slider that adjusts the menus and everything else. This is what I want on the TV. A single brightness control that does the same thing.

i mean if you are going to enjoy HDR10 content then your OLED TV brightness will automatically turn its light bright enough to produce that HDR10 content, so my advice just consume non-HDR10 content or turn on your bedroom light
i mean you are going to enjoy HDR10 content but hoping your TV to as dim as possible? it's not gonna happen tbh

Not as dim as possible, just as dim as I prefer. I shouldn’t need to go back to SDR or change my room lighting to enjoy my expensive new TV
My previous Sony TV made it easy. It had a simple brightness control that also adjusted the menu brightness. And it was actually called “brightness”.
