As a longtime Samsung user, one thing I’ve realized in this new era of smartphones is that Google is slowly pushing Android users toward the same closed ecosystem approach that made many people choose iPhone in the first place.

Working at a phone store, one of the biggest questions customers ask is:

“Why is Samsung allowing this to happen?”

And honestly, it’s frustrating.

As someone from the Caribbean, you don’t even get the full Samsung or Android experience. So many features, payment systems, and services are either unavailable, limited, or delayed in our region. Sometimes you still have to run to an iPhone user just to purchase certain things or access services more smoothly.

It feels like either Samsung is allowing it to happen or simply doesn’t care enough about users outside the major markets.

What made Android special was freedom, customization, and accessibility. But now it feels like the ecosystem is becoming more restrictive, more dependent, and more focused on locking users into services instead of empowering them.

The sad part is Android dominates in regions like the Caribbean, yet many of us still receive a watered-down experience compared to users in the US or Europe.

My brothers and sisters, I genuinely wonder:

What are your thoughts on this?

But the iPhone uses the strictest closed ecosystem of any device maker. So if people are moving to iPhones to escape Samsung's tighter controls, then they are moving in wrong direction.

Also, Google created the Android OS and it's open source, so Samsung creates their own proprietary layered UI on it. So Samsung is the one becoming more closed, and they are. So, there are other Android devices that are decent & not do locked in. Unfortunately, the Samsung & Apple own the US market and the US is horrible for choices in smartphones.

This is definitely a first for me though, having a convo by reading my inbox then replying back. I only see 2 lines, you gotta keep if short. It will get worked out in the morning.

Google apps have ruined my s26 ultra and I'll never buy a Samsung product again if it has anything to do with Google.

Hello i agree with you. I think that if buy a car, a bike , anything you should be able to do what you want with it. Paint it , mod it, whatever you want but not our cell phones. Its one of the most costly things a person has and everyone has one. I try to use FOSS anytime i can and i support it. You should check it out along with my site www.southdreams.com
