anyone having issues with the playstore app crashing if you try to do a search ?
i can open the app and check for app updates and update any that are available but the moment i try to do a search for an app after i type the 2nd letter it closes the app. im trying to find a replacement sms/mms app because Samsung got stupid and took theirs away and the Google Messages is HORRIBLE. it keeps listing texts multiple times from the same contact rather then keeping the texts in the same window. and i have wasted sooo much time trying to figure out why or if there was a setting to even organize messages. NOPE. i really am starting to feel like Samsung is trying to force Google apps on us by not letting us even search for any others.

Hi there @ESAdogMom4Life and welcome to the Community! I completely understand how frustrating it can be when an app isn't working the way it should. I think it's important to try the steps both @Chummy128 and @Design1 mentioned. To add to that here is what I'd suggest.
First, open the Play Store, tap your profile icon in the top right corner, and select Manage apps & device. Tap the Manage tab, then tap the Filter icon (three horizontal lines) and make sure Recently updated is selected. Select the affected app(s) using the checkboxes, tap Uninstall (the trash can icon), and confirm the prompt to remove the app updates. Once that's done, return to the Overview tab, tap Updates available, and reinstall the updates by tapping Update next to the affected app(s) or Update all.
If the issue still persists, let's check whether a third-party app may be causing the problem by starting the device in Safe Mode. Press and hold the Power (or Side) button and the Volume Down button at the same time, or swipe down from the top of the screen with two fingers and tap the Power icon. Touch and hold Power off, then tap Safe mode. While in Safe Mode, try using the device and remove any apps that were recently installed or updated around the time the issue began. If the problem no longer occurs in Safe Mode, a third-party app is likely the cause. When you're finished, simply restart your phone or tablet to exit Safe Mode and return to normal operation.
We know how inconvenient these issues can be, and we appreciate your patience while working through these steps.
Thanks so much for posting. Hopefully, this helps get everything back up and running normally. 🙂
