It's concerning seeing the posts about cracked glasstops, I guess we somehow made it past the first part of the bathtub curve. I fear it every time we put something hot ontop (let alone preheating a burner!!) Sounds terrifying from the description, my sympathies go to the people who've experienced this.

My issue right now is a little more boring but no less frustrating: our food regularly seems to burn or overcook in the oven. We figured a -20 degree reduction in recipes to try and compensate, although cooking still seems inconsistent. I've finally sat down to measure this, and found that the oven has a significant temperature variation and seemingly poor control over its temperature (but I'm also getting different readings from different sources.) It was originally 20-40 degrees higher than requested, depending on which thermometer (old-fashioned oven analoge or questionable digital probe). I'm not ruling out user error of the digital probe either, but also can't help acknowledging the first half of 2022 manufacturing date of the oven, which is right after when everyone was tightening up and recovering from COVID... So it's an oven from a special era.

At any rate, I found the manual for it and followed the procedure to check the temperature offset. That revealed a number of 20. As I was on a mission to subtract twenty, I set the negative (gear) button. I realized that would be a 40 degree change, and reset it to 0. Apparently, it had always been calibrated with a +20 offset. That did seem to bring the temperature closer in range, but then the digital probe measures it shooting past 20+ degrees again before I gave up.

Can any one else comment on their experiences with oven temperature?
