I've looked through similar posts and none of the solutions there seem to be working, but I'm having battery issues after the update.

Main symptoms are quick battery drain, randomly shutting off when I have 2 apps (floating window on top of another app) going on at the same time), randomly shutting down at 40-80% battery, and then when I turn it back on again, it tells me I have no battery.

Checking battery usage doesn't reflect anything useful, my phone is not t-mobile so it doesn't have the mobile services app, tried rebooting in safe mode but the issue still persists, and it is getting very annoying that I have to walk everywhere with my phone constantly plugged in to a portable charger lest it dies in the 5 minutes its not connected.

I would like to not factory reset my phone if I don't have to because I find the backup process and such tedious. In addition, there's no guarantee that it'll fix my issue. Is there anything else I can do?

Put in an error report the next time you have one of these incidents.  You can find error reporting in the support tab of the members app.  Look for the feedback link.  Make sure to include the log (which is collected automatically).  Error reports are best done within 15 minutes of an occurrence.

No one likes to reset their phones, because it *is* tedious, but oftentimes that's the only way to fix certain issues.  Your phone backs up automatically with most of your information (see screen shot), so restoration is simple and quick.  The only thing you have to back up separately would be any documents you have in your download folder , your music and , possibly your photos for insurance against loss, although they will repopulate if you didn't turn off Google backup.  Or you can just make a complete smart switch backup utilizing Samsung's temporary cloud storage.
