Last night i had my galaxy s24 on the wireless pad all night. It lit up saying 100 percent however when i turned it on it only said 80 percent. Battery protection is off. Battery has been draining faster lately. Is it software related? I know developers intentionally send out updates to decrease a phones charging capacity. I had the same issue with my Motorola 1 5g ace and my iPhone SE some years back and i ended up having to replace them. Is this just normal now for a phones battery to start screwing up so quickly? Ive only had this for a year

Hello, @Richard390, welcome to the Samsung Community! Thank you for reaching out. We understand how frustrating it is to leave your phone on a charger all night only to find it at 80%, especially when you are already noticing a faster battery drain.
To address your concern directly: Samsung does not deploy software updates designed to degrade hardware or intentionally limit your battery life.
Instead, the discrepancy you are seeing is highly likely related to wireless charging mechanics or system calibration.
Here are the quickest ways to isolate and fix the problem:
Heat and Alignment Throttling: Wireless pads require perfect coil alignment. If the phone shifts slightly or gets too warm overnight, built in safety mechanisms will automatically pause charging around 80% to protect the battery. As @Uniqueangel0 has suggested, try using a standard USB-C wall cable for a few nights to see if the issue stops. For more details on maintaining ideal charging conditions, you can read the Samsung Charging Guide here. (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/galaxy-battery/charging-tip/)
Check Battery Health: Go to Settings > Battery > Device Care (or Phone Diagnostics) to run a battery health test and check if any background apps are causing the unusual drain. You can follow the step by step instructions on the Samsung Battery Optimization Guide to put heavy background apps to sleep. (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/galaxy-battery/optimization/)
Please reply back and let us know if a standard wired cable gets you back up to 100% tonight, as we want to make sure your S24 is performing exactly as it should, and we're here to guide you through the next steps if it isn't!
