How can I revert these incessant UI changes? How can I opt-out?

I don't want your stupid stacked clock. I don't want your pill-shaped battery. I don't want rounded apps on my home screen.

This is seriously making me think about never touching a Samsung product ever again. Seriously, JUST ASK if I like the new UI instead of changing it for me. I can see security updates, but UI? Changing MY personalization? Quit it and tell me how to reverse it.

Download Good Lock. You can change a lot of these weird changes that they've forced down our throats. But seriously, Good Lock is a lifesaver.

Good Lock does not much beyond giving more options to customize clock. You could add widgets before too.

But you can not change some notifications and audio control to the previous (ui6) pattern without widgets (that are permanently there, and previously available), you get a small pills and that is it.

Updates happen , and with updates come new looks. Updates are mandatory. Samsung snd Google own the software and they can change it in any way they like. Many of the cosmetic changes are Google's, so you will likely find the same look on any Android device. Only Samsung, though, gives you customization options.

And thats the problem we've allowed to developed.  THEY own the thing which allows YOUR purchased device to operate as it should. Without what THEY produce, YOUR device doesn't work as intended.

      Kinda fishy,  no?

Ever hear of copyright protections? Sure, you built it and sold it but that doesn't give anyone who bought it the right to change it and sell or distribute it.

      Ask Napster.

The answer to this is to use older phones that will no longer get ui updates. I used my s7 until May of this year when I bought a used s23 knowing it would only get a couple of ui updates more. Now that we've got one ui 9, we should be done. I'll probably use this phone for another 4 or 5 years, when I'll buy another used phone with minimal updating left to do.

As far as computer os's are concerned, my whole house is on Linux--NO forced anything. Wouldn't touch Windows or Apple again!

      Hi, there!

I know change can be frustrating. Here is a helpful post about how to change certain things back: https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Samsung-Apps-and-Services/A-list-of-features-that-can-be-changed-back/td-p/3228060?src=ShareByUserCM

You can choose whatever lock screen clock style you like by long pressing the lock screen.

The pill will reportedly have the option to be disabled in One UI 8.5.

Unfortunately, you agreed to TOS and EULA when you first set up the phone. As such Samsung has both the ability and right to change the software on all Samsung phones in any way they deem appropriate to maintain a uniform appearance and experience across devices.

Most of these changes are being made to cohere with Google's new M3E design language and adhere to the style guide. Learn more about that here: https://www.androidauthority.com/google-material-3-expressive-features-changes-availability-supported-devices-3556392/

So don't update. Turn off auto update.

Tried something in developer options, but I bet it won't work. If you know a way to guarantee that I don't get an update, I'd like to know.

Updates are mandatory.  The only way to NOT get an update would be to downgrade your phone to a model that is no longer in the update cycle.  The S23 model is slated for updates through 2028.  Or, if you have a carrier branded phone, have it unlocked and switch carriers.  Your phone won't find the proper servers to find the updates on.

My phone IS unlocked. I've had 3 update AND Changed carriers in between. I don't think changing from AT&T to T-MOBILE, or T-MOBILE to some Walmart BYOP carrier can stop the Samsung updates. Or MILLIONS of us would swapped our carriers out BEFORE we lost Samsung Messages.

Maybe pitching a fit like a self centered child will help.

Maybe replying with something useful will help. I spent $1500 on my phone, it is perfectly acceptable to be "self centered" for something that is literally mine genius.

How about I take something of yours, then mock you when you want it back? Oh right, that's bullying. Do better.

All the departments need to keep the machine running, and UI changes are part of that unfortunately. Luckily 1ui8 isn't that bad as far as significant ui changes from 7. 6 to 7 was a huge ui change in my opinion. As is with all major software companies.
Really no way to revert to another Android version other than rooting.
As others have echoed in the comments check out GoodLock or the Home app in the Galaxy store for more customizations to your liking or to make it look more like 1ui7 if you prefer.

The first form that allows you to opt out of updates will be the number one phone in the world. Honestly I'd pay $3,000 for a phone that would not have updates.

I'm OK with the SECURITY updates -- but really what is so wrong with the peso features THAT SAMHAIN HAS OFFERED OVER THE YEARS, that they now have to take them away & give us a replace that doesn't work at all for us? Samhain seems **bleep**-bent on actual offering less & less instead of more.
Y'know, I'm old enough & smart enough to set my own routines. I don't need a phone to keep our to remind me it's time to go to sleep or wake up, or go to the bathroom or take a pill or exercise or make my delivery grocery order. Maybe Samsung could make a SPECIAL phone for pelt that need for their phones to be in control. Most adults just don't need that type of overwatch.
