You are completely right that the background is currently limited to solid colors, but you should still be able to change the Wallpaper Frame's layout style in the current build.
In the meantime, I have something that might help! If your phone is running One UI 8.5 or higher, you can download Good Lock from the Galaxy Store. It is an official Samsung app that unlocks advanced customization features, allowing you to tailor your phone's layout and themes much further.
