I had about 300 music folders with somewhere around 8000 songs on my Galaxy s8+ micro SD card. Yes, I'm a little behind the times but just upgraded to a Galaxy s21+ and I have been beating my head against the wall trying to get my music on the 21. Every time I upload the music it just shows up as one unknown artist with 8000 songs. Tried simply rebooting the phone, didn't work. Tried uploading 1 folder at a time, didn't work.
All this music is mostly from CD's and over the last 40+ years I've never had an issue with any of the music. So please don't suggest I need to tag all of it, because this is only a 1/4 of my music collection and that task would be complete insanity!!.lol
Any suggestions??
Thanks!!

The artists show with the song titles on the SD card? It sounds like the ID3 tags or file names are not being transferred. How are you transferring the files - via Smart Switch or just a straight file transfer? If you take a USB SD card reader and attach it to your phone, can you read the tags? Does the music player pick up the tags? You may have to download an app such as Zortam Automatic Tag Editor (or any other editor), which should automatically embed the tags (if they are embedded in the file). And, no, you don't have to tag each file individually, if the info is there it will be tagged automatically. You may have to do the tagging on the SD card. I used Zortam on my computer to tag my ripped music originally, and they have stayed from transfer to to transfer.

Hey, Trasher66. We appreciate you sharing this concern with us. Dealing with a massive music library transition can definitely be frustrating, especially when moving away from a physical SD card slot. I have a suggestion that kind of piggybacks off one of the things you have already tried.
You stated you rebooted your device, obviously this would help reset any glitches. Can you try clearing the storage media cache and then rebooting your device? Sometimes the Android Media Storage database glitches during massive bulk transfers, causing it to misread metadata.
1) Go to Settings > Apps > Tap the filter icon and enable Show system apps.
2) Search for Media Storage and Sec Media Storage.
3) Tap Storage > Clear Data and Clear Cache.
4) Reboot the phone and allow 10–15 minutes for the system to index the files correctly.
I'm not entirely sure if this would work, but we are more than happy to assist you with this concern, so you don't have to manually edit 1000 songs, because that would drive me crazy, too.

It seems that maybe my SD card from my s8 may be corrupted, which I've been trying to upload all the music from.
OK, no problem! Windows Media player, iTunes & Sonos 1 controller all pull music from the same folder.
So, I tried uploading music from that file that's on the desktop. I had a feeling that loading too many files may be an issue....so I tried about 20 folders at a time.
Totally bizarre...after uploading all the A folders, they showed up in the Samsung Music app. Then tried all the B folders.....nope!!

Thanks for the update! Since the SD card is working fine and the songs are transferring directly from your PC, have you double-checked that the audio files are properly tagged before moving them over? Incorrect or missing metadata tags can often cause songs to be labeled as "unknown artist."
