Lately, when my friend was saving files to her Samsung T7, it kept freezing. She ran a Surface Test scan with MiniTool Partition Wizard and found some bad sectors (though maybe it’s not necessary to scan an SSD). So she copied the files off it and tried to format it, but it said the format failed. When she tried again, it gave an I/O error. She tried Disk Management and Samsung Magician, but nothing worked… Since her drive is out of warranty, she didn’t consider contacting customer service.
Finally, as a last-ditch effort, she tried formatting it on a different computer (mine). ?????? It worked again????? This is really strange. Has anyone else encountered a similar situation?

ohh probably her computer USB port is kinda broken, so can't read that T7 SSD properly

next time when your friend encounter same issue, i highly recommend format it thru her phone. I revived an HDD enclosure by formatting it thru a Galaxy phone, i can't format it thru my 3 different laptops, and magically when i try connect my HDD enclosure my galaxy phone, my HDD get formatted easily !

That’s a really good trick! I wouldn't have thought of formatting it through a phone. I’ll definitely tell my friend to try this next time she runs into trouble. Thanks!

The 12-month limit can't be manually reset. Your best option is to contact Google One Support and explain your family situation to see if they can help.

I think you might have replied to the wrong post by mistake! This thread is about a Samsung SSD. Thanks anyway!

I haven't run into this situation before. However, I'd like to ask if the Surface Test feature in MiniTool Partition Wizard that you mentioned is any good. My Samsung hard drive has been acting a bit strangely lately, but I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, so I want to run a scan to check it.

Minitool partition wizard's surface test is decent, but it only detects bad sectors. For a Samsung drive, you should use Samsung Magician. It is free, official, and reads the actual SMART health data of your drive.

Okay, thanks! In the future, if I run into issues with other hard drives, I'll use the Surface Test function in MiniTool Partition Wizard to scan the disks. Since I'm currently having trouble with my Samsung drive, I'll use its built-in Samsung Magician tool to scan it.
