Suggestion: Official External GPU (eGPU) Support for Samsung Galaxy Smartphones

Hello Samsung Team,

I would like to propose a feature for future Samsung Galaxy smartphones that could significantly improve their gaming capabilities and professional use cases.

My suggestion is to introduce official external GPU (eGPU) support through high-speed USB-C, such as USB4 or a similar high-bandwidth interface.

The idea is to allow users to connect their Galaxy smartphones to an external GPU dock equipped with a desktop graphics card. In this setup, the phone's processor would continue handling the main system tasks, while demanding graphics processing could be handled by the external GPU, provided that the necessary hardware and software support is available.

For example, users could connect their Galaxy smartphones to a dock equipped with a graphics card such as an AMD Radeon RX 580 or an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 and use its graphics capabilities for compatible games and applications.

Benefits of This Feature

  • Improved graphics performance: Run demanding games with higher graphics quality and frame rates.
  • A better gaming experience: Reduce the limitations imposed by the phone's internal GPU in compatible games.
  • Better use of hardware: Allow compatible graphics workloads to benefit from the dedicated video memory available on external graphics cards.
  • Extended smartphone lifespan: Improve graphics performance without having to replace the entire phone.
  • Enhanced Samsung DeX capabilities: Turn a Galaxy smartphone into a more powerful gaming and productivity system when connected to a monitor and peripherals.
  • A competitive advantage for Samsung: Introduce a distinctive feature for flagship and future Galaxy smartphones.

Of course, this feature would need to be designed with careful consideration of interface bandwidth, CPU performance, power management, cooling, graphics drivers, and compatible graphics APIs.

Additional Suggestion: An Official eGPU Dock for Galaxy

Samsung could develop a dedicated dock that supports external graphics cards, an appropriate power supply, and cooling. When connected, the smartphone could automatically switch to a dedicated gaming mode or an enhanced desktop mode.

Combined with Samsung DeX, this feature could provide a unique experience and help bridge the gap between smartphones and gaming PCs.

Ideally, Samsung could introduce this feature initially on compatible devices and, where technically feasible, consider extending support to older Galaxy models with sufficient hardware capabilities.

I hope Samsung will consider this proposal for future Galaxy devices. Official eGPU support could open up new possibilities for mobile gaming, professional smartphone use, and extending the useful life of Galaxy devices.
