Having received my new tablet yesterday and setup use, here are a few comments when compared against previous s9fe tablet. Perhaps in some ways this is not a fair comparison and is like comparing an early s23fe phone against latest S26Ultra. These tablets are in different price and user categories but here are comments that I would make anyway.
GPU benchmark Vulkan
CPU benchmarks for single and multicore
Display
The 12.6 display of the s12+ when compared to that of the 10.9 display of my previous tab is a very noticeable size improvement.
The OLED display of the s12+ is a completely different category than the LCD display on my S9FE.
AMOLED displays of this size just punch out colour and tones so much better during videos and streaming apps. Viewing really is a very different experience on this 12.6 OLED device.
Processor
The Mediatek dimensity 9500 processor seems from early use to be a powerful beast. After setup yesterday it seems really fast and responsive. It probably isnt a fair comparison against a 3 year old generation of Exynos mid tier processor in the S9FE, but at least initially it feels really fast.
I thought I would do a quick Geekbench 7 benchmark score for the CPU and GPU. I didnt do any preparation for this, and the device having being used all day with installs and setting up. The battery is still in its learning phase. But here were the results.
To be honest i am pretty impressed. The Dimensity 9500 managed to get remarkably close to that magic score of 10000 multi-core and 3000 single core. Additionally the GPU is close to the 20000 score. Not quite but close.
To put into context, only the latest Snapgragon 8 elite gen 5 chipset that is integrated into the s26 ultra and latest fold 8 range can typically do better than these benchmark scores.
To achieve this with the demands of a large device such as a 12.6" tablet is quite impressive.
S pen
With S pens being removed from folds for the past couple of generations then it is nice to retain the ability with a tablet.
My s9FE also had an s pen, but this hexagonal shape pen feels far better to hold than the earlier type which was round shape with a flat side.
There is a familiarity with my schooling years of using HB pencils !
a familiar style
Dex
Dex works out of the box, both wired with a computer setup as shown, but also has its own inbuilt mode for tablet use.
Only given it a quick check (and produced this post on it)... but Dex will get more use when needing a keyboard, mouse and monitor environment.
In the picture I am using my gaming setup with Steelseries keyboard, mouse, and a 1440P 27" LG monitor. Dex is a powerful tool when wanting to do a bit more in a office based workload, than simple tablet work.
full PC environment using DEX
Software
OneUI9.0 out of the box, and with 7 years of future updates. This s12+ has many years of support to come. This is probably the main reason I upgraded right now, as the S9FE is reaching the end of its support for OneUI updates.
Google play is a bit out of date as we stand upon release but I am sure will follow after the first post-release update.
oneui9.0 out of the box.
Lots more to test in the near future including gaming and streaming, and some video processing with Lumafusion.
Smiley.
NOTE: NONE OF THIS IS AI GENERATED AND IS ALL MY OWN WORK AND THOUGHTS.
In some ways it is a shame these days that we have to put this statement !
