Hi all. Recently purchased a Samsung 65” OLED S93F 4K and paired it with a Panasonic DP UB 150 4k Blu Ray player. Connected via an Amazon basics HDMI cable meeting the spec required.

During the initial set up of the player however, I'm getting the error message “cannot connect with 4k, please check if the devices are compatible” etc etc.

if I ignore this, complete the set up then go into the settings of the player it “appears” to then allow me to select a 4k output, however on the first film I tried I wasn’t blown away by the picture in the way I thought I would be so Im  questioning if I am actual getting a 4 k ultra feed or not and if the initial error message is relevant.

I understand this might be more of an issue for Panasonic but just thought I would come at it from both angles. Have posted on some FB sites and the consensus of opinion appears to be spend more on a decent cable. Has anyone here got this combo of units or similar and can offer any advice?

      Hi @fardo

The Samsung 65” OLED S93F is fully compatible with 4K UHD (2160p) playback, including HDR formats, when connected to a supported external source. The message you are seeing during the initial setup of your Panasonic DP-UB150 typically relates to the HDMI handshake process rather than an indication that the TV cannot display a 4K signal.

Please check the following points to ensure optimal 4K performance:

      1. HDMI Input and Settings

        • Confirm that the Blu-ray player is connected directly to the TV (not through a receiver or switch).

        • Ensure the player is connected to an HDMI port on the TV that supports full bandwidth.

        • On the TV, navigate to Settings > General & Privacy > External Device Manager > Input Signal Plus and make sure Input Signal Plus is enabled for the HDMI port in use. This setting is required for full 4K/HDR bandwidth.

      2. HDMI Cable

        • While Amazon Basics cables often meet HDMI specifications, we recommend using a Premium High Speed HDMI or Ultra High Speed HDMI cable (certified for 18 Gbps or higher) to ensure reliable 4K HDR transmission. In some cases, cables may pass initial detection but still limit bandwidth during playback.

      3. Blu-ray Player Output Settings

        • On the Panasonic player, set HDMI output to Auto or 2160p.

        • Confirm HDR output is enabled and that the disc being tested is a verified 4K UHD Blu-ray (standard Blu-ray discs will not display in 4K).

      4. Firmware Updates

        • Please ensure both the TV and the Blu-ray player are running the latest firmware versions, as updates can improve HDMI compatibility and signal negotiation.

If the TV is receiving a 4K HDR signal correctly, you should briefly see an on-screen notification indicating HDR or UHD content when playback begins, and this can also be verified via the TV’s Picture Information menu.

If the issue persists after trying a certified HDMI cable and confirming the settings above, we would recommend continuing troubleshooting with Panasonic support regarding the initial setup message, as it originates from the Blu-ray player.

Hello moderator. Thanks for that I have adjusted the Tv settings on the relevant HDMI port, updated firmware via lan and easy set up now appears to be working fine with no error message. On screen prompts appear to confirm Playback of Ultra HD!!

That said, and as mentioned previously! The film I am using to test (one of the Star Trek movies) whilst good isn’t blowing my mind with picture quality. Are my expectations just to high? Are some movies so old that the transfer to ultra he only work so far? Would this likeLy improve with a better HDMI cable?
