Hi, is there any possibility of a new update for Samsung S20 FE 5G? I know the device is end of life, but an update is needed to give access to 5G.

After extensive troubleshooting and pointless calls to Fido's technical support I have finally figured out why my phone won't connect to their new 5G network. Fido's CSC (FMC) has not been updated on my phone since the 5G network went live. I believe my last update was in Oct. So unless my phone gets a new update to Fido's CSC allowing 5G, I will forever be stuck with LTE service on a 5G device.

I know of others who are within the S20 family that are stuck in the same situation

I think it has no longer supported! It might get the odd security update that's about it!

Both the regular S20 series and the FE variant should support 5G.

      Hi Darkhexen,

Thank you for sharing your experience with the Galaxy S20 FE 5G and the challenges you’ve faced connecting to Fido’s 5G network. The Galaxy S20 FE 5G has reached its end‑of‑life stage for software updates, which means new carrier‑specific CSC updates may no longer be released. Because Play System and CSC updates are dependent on both Samsung and the carrier, the availability of a new CSC update for Fido cannot be guaranteed once a device is outside its official update cycle.

Your feedback helps us understand how important ongoing compatibility is for our community, and we will ensure it is shared with our teams. We know this situation is disappointing, and we sincerely appreciate your patience and loyalty to Galaxy devices.

Would changing from Fido to Rogers create a new CSC and therefore allow a 5G connection on the S20 FE?

It shouldn't, as Fido uses the identical CSC (Country Specific Code) as Rogers.

You might want to verify that your device has the correct APN (Access Point Name) in Network Settings. The correct APN should be available on Fido's site.

      Hi McFly_Qc_,

Thank you for sharing the specific troubleshooting steps you've been working through.

We acknowledge how challenging it is to deal with intermittent LTE connectivity and fluctuating SIM status errors after switching carriers, especially when it has been impacting your sleep over the past few days. We sincerely apologize for the stress and inconvenience this network issue has caused since you transitioned to Fizz.

      1. Reset Mobile Network Settings:

      • Go to Settings > General Management > Reset.
      • Tap Reset mobile network settings and confirm. (Note: This clears saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings).
      • Restart your phone.
Verification: Check if your mobile data icon switches smoothly from searching to a stable LTE indicator.

      2. Inspect and Clean the SIM Card:

      • Power off your phone completely.
      • Use the SIM ejector tool to remove the SIM tray.
      • Wipe the gold contact surface of the SIM card gently with a clean microfiber cloth.
      • Reinsert the tray securely, ensuring the SIM card sits flat.
Verification: Go to Settings > About phone > Status information > SIM status to confirm that the connection status remains steadily "Connected" without dropping if physical sim.

      3. Try with another sim:

If you have access to another active SIM card (from a family member or friend on a different network), insert it into your phone. If the replacement SIM connects stably to LTE without dropping, it confirms that your current Fizz SIM card is faulty or provisioned incorrectly, helping us pinpoint the exact source of the issue.
