Dont know if its from ui9 or the latest update for android auto but I no longer get text notifications when driving. The Google message app is also completely missing from the android auto list of apps.

How did you manage to disable Google? Were you trying to remove some Google features you did not want and just disabled the whole shebang?

There is, I refuse to use either of the assistants, so I believe I have it turned off - at least I never actually activated it, but I did notice it lurks in the background on my watch sometimes (but not on my phone).

Also have you visited the Android Auto settings and checked the Messaging section?

The hidden apps are just there, they are items from the list that one has chosen to not show on the launcher. Once you uncheck an app, it moves to that section, so that if you change your mind, you can just re-check it and add it back.
