I believe that OneUI handles eye comfort shield incorrectly, and it really frustrates me because I'm otherwise really happy with OneUI 8.5 as a brand new Samsung user.
I have a Samsung Tab S10 FE (SM-X520) which I have been using for a short while, running the latest OneUI 8.5 update available.
The issue I have is that Eye Comfort Shield mode will overlay a solid orange colour over the display, instead of actually shifting the contents of the display to a warmer tone as is the case in all other android skins and AOSP. I have this image to demonstrate the issue:
You can see clearly here what the issue is, OneUI handles Eye Comfort Shield by simply overlaying an orange colour instead of actually just adjusting the colour temperature of the display's image. The consequences of having it done this way is severely compromised contrast (which makes it much harder for me to personally read text), almost negligible actual blue light reduction (as the underlying blue tones are still there and unaffected, just washed out by an orange colour), as well as very muddy and unpleasant looking dark colours and blacks. I have seen online references to an "enhanced" mode that could correct this, but I can find absolutely no trace of it on this tablet.
AOSP and other Android skins handle this using the built in "Night Light"/"Twilight" functions, which employ a true colour temperature control for the displayed image using the COLOR_DISPLAY_SERVICE built into AOSP.
I have even tried to access the original AOSP Night Light settings page via ADB but this seems to have been completely replaced by OneUI's very badly implemented Eye Comfort Shield, which is causing me great frustration at an otherwise wonderful device. I don't understand why Samsung have decided to do it this way, as all other OEMs will do it the "correct" way using a colour temperature transform, even for devices which use LCD displays where it works almost as effectively as on OLED displays.
I write this just to plead that at least a setting for how OneUI handles Eye Comfort Shield can be added in future revisions, allowing it to utilise the pre-existing and well tested system of shifting the colour temperature of the display contents instead of overlaying a semi-transparent orange colour. Hopefully this discussion could lead to a vast quality of life improvement for everyone currently using OneUI Eye Comfort Shield.
I'm reposting this as I accidentally posted it to the wrong page, hopefully this should be correct now.
Thanks for reading and for your interest.
