How do I remove an app from a folder and return it to the App Drawer on my Galaxy S21 5G?  I have tried holding and moving the app up out of the folder but that only puts the app onto the Home screen and not in the App Drawer.

Are you trying to remove the app from a folder in your app drawer or homescreen. If app drawer then there are certain folders in there like Google, Samsung that won't allow you to simply remove the apps in them. My first screenshot shows a folder and its apps on my homescreen. As you can see the remove option is available. However, the second screenshot shows a folder (Google) and its apps off my app drawer. As you can see the apps cannot be removed from the folder and the remove option is not available. The only thing you can do here is delete the folder from the app drawer. These folders are pre installed when you set up your device. Subsequent folders that YOU create in the app drawer, will have the remove option for individual apps. I always create my folders on the homescreen and never the app drawer. I find it messy and unnecessary.1715522031527_1715522031517_0.jpg1715522319428_1715522319424_0.jpg

Ours and hold the app, drag it outside of the border of the folder,  then the rest of the folders will appear and you can place the app in another folder or back on the desktop

Thank you! This is the only correct answer from all others here. But what a highly counterintuitive setup. Samsung guys should just add a remove from folder button 🙈

If you want to pull an app out of a folder in the app drawer, the ONLY WAY is to DRAG IT OUT FROM THE TOP LEFT SIDE OF THE FOLDER. Then it will allow you to place the app wherever you want inside the app drawer, instead of going straight to the home screen!

There are BAD UI changes Samsung, BAD!

I have just spent at least 30 minutes of utter frustration trying to move some apps out of a folders so that I could make a new folder for them, on the app page and not the home screen. Your solution was the first and only that worked, so thank you very much for that! I'm just curious - how would you even figure this out?

Same boat here, with folder I created, and want to remove an app now.

I used to be able to long press an app to remove it, or just drag them out. However, in all of the folders I have created, I cannot remove any of the apps I put into them.

The only workaround I could figure out was to delete the entire folder, and start over. I'm not sure how long its been this way. There have been updates since, so I'm now wondering if an update changed this.

Has anyone figure this out, since this post is a year old now? Thanks!

This sucks, but here's a work around instead of deleting folder:

From folder, select all apps you DON'T want to remove from the folder and create new folder. This leaves the remaining app by itself, free from the folder.

      ACTUAL SOLUTION:

      1. Hold down on app until menu appears (the menu with Select as an option).

      2. Enter Select mode

      3. You can drag and drop from here

Hold it and drag it to the empty spaces between the rows of apps as shown in the image1715516726062.jpg

Thanks for your response however when I open the folder it does not open in app drawer so I cannot drag the app to an empty space between the rows of apps.  I think the only way is to delete the folder but this seems like a cumbersome way of moving a single app out of a folder.  I have dleted the folder now and all the apps are back in the app drawer.  Now I have to rebuild the folder with out the app that I wanted removed.

That's what I had to resort to, delete the entire folder to remove one single app. It's a cumbersome workaround and really not good enough Samsung, are you listening?

Sorry to dig up an old topic, but I just wanted to let people know this is still an issue.

It's kind of annoying this was marked as "solved" because the solution that was chosen doesn't work.

Anyway, almost a year later and I have no option but to delete the whole folder and remake it just because I want to move one app to another folder.

I have now simply deleted the folder.  This puts all the apps in that folder back into the app drawer.  However I now have to recreate the folder and return all the apps back into the new folder except the one I wanted to remove.  This is a cumbersome way of doing it but at least it worked.  Surely there is a better way of simply removing an app from a folder without hassle.

I was struggling with the same issue and the suggested solution of dragging the app out of the top left of the folder. What eventually worked for me was to continue pressing down after dragging out of top left until the apps screen shows up then you can place it.  It seems touchy and if you drag too far down on the apps screen it goes to the home screen.

Buenas!

Can't believe this bad design has been going on for so long and still frustrates users. Thanks for the fix.
