Does anyone else hate that we've lost the themes we had for our messages?
I absolutely LOVED using Samsung messages. There were no bugs and it is easy to use.
Google messages is horrible.
It doesn't even apply the system themes that I PAID FOR!!
Samsung really downgraded with this decision.
I've had a Samsung since the first Galaxy S series. I'm leaving them after this phone kicks it and going to a competitor.

Although I share your frustrations with Samsung messages. How does going to another provider solve your problems?
Have you tried GoodLock KEYCAFE ?
Samsung actually does want to get rid of Messages in favour of Google messages. It's already not available in the USA.
I have requested Samsung to atleast skin google messages or give the option as I also don't like Google UI.
It looks childish and very unappealing compared to One UI.

Google messages is better than ever before. Google adopted themes for chats.
You can use your own custom photos, images, wallpapers, whatever or you can use some predefined themes from Google.
Some of mine custom chat themes in Google messages
Predefined Google themes
Oh, and chat bubbles change color depending on the selected theme
