Weird persistent Android Auto issue

After aggressive notifications that my current phone – a Galaxy Note 9 – will no longer be supported then I decided to buy a new phone, and finally landed on the Samsung Z Fold 6. Unfortunately, whenever I plug this phone into my car it immediately shows as “charging only” and the car shows “connection failed”.

I have tried with TWO Z Fold6 phones, and get the same issue.
I have changed wire and now use a high-speed data cable.
I have enabled developer options and changed the default USB configuration from “charging only.”
I have reinstalled Android Auto, cleared cache, etc.
I have restarted my cars infotainment system.
I have disabled all the battery saver options I can find in Android.
I have turned off the RAM Plus setting.

Regardless of what I have tried, the phone vibrates and gives the pop up message “Connected for charging only…” and Android Auto either shows briefly before disconnecting again, or doesn’t show at all.

My old Note 9 still works perfectly (for now!) M
y work phone (Samsung Galaxy A34) works perfectly.
My wife’s iPhone works perfectly.
A TCL Nxtpaper 60 Ultra that I trialled briefly worked perfectly.

I’m out of ideas, other than moving away from the Z Fold 6 entirely, but I that my next phone choice (S24 Ultra) will have the same issue.

Any advice or suggestions welcome!

@Members_56YnfAp : When you mentioned that you had enabled developer options, and changed the configuration from 'Charging only', did you do this via the Notification panel?

When you connect to an external device via USB, such as your cars system, you should see a notification in the Notification Panel which recognises the connection. If you tap on the notification to expand the options, you can select 'Transferring files / Android Auto from the list of options (the default being 'Charging phone only').

Following this step, your cars system should now recognise the connected device, and run Android Auto as expected after launching it via Settings > Connected devices > Android Auto.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I'd changed this from the notification panel on both the Z Flip6s that I have had this issue with, before and after changing the developer settings.

After changing the setting then it looks like it still tries to change back to "charging only" and then goes back to the Transferring files option (but still fails to connect).

So I'll add s25 Ultra to the blacklist too, thanks.

I really want the stylus functionality, but would prioritise Android Auto over that. May end up getting a budget model just to meet basic needs.

Looks like it may be a One UI 9 issue? https://www.androidpolice.com/android-auto-and-one-ui-9-issues/

Does this match what you've got going on?
