I have an original airtag on my car and an airtag 2 on my dogs collar. The airtag 2 does not update as often as my original airtag.
For example on Christmas day I took my dog and my car to my sister's all day.
My car was outside 30metres away and updated 8 times throughout the day.
My dog was sat in the house with 9 phones and only updated 4 times.
It fails to update when out with the dog walker often too. It's like it wants to update off just my phone. Yet I share it's location and my dog walker has a Samsung. I can manually go in and find it usually no bother. But any ideas why it's not as good as the original? And doesn't update as often?

Hi @Bladette999, I can certainly help you identify why this is happening. Just to confirm, are you using Samsung SmartTags or AirTags from a different manufacturer?

You did refer to it as a "Airtag", which is a product of a fruit company 🍎

Thanks for clearing up you're using the Samsung SmartTag 2, @Bladette999 .

It sounds like you are encountering an issue with the frequency of updates on your Samsung SmartTag 2 compared to the original SmartTag. There could be several reasons for this difference:

      1. Bluetooth Range and Connection: The Samsung SmartTag 2 may not be connecting as effectively to other devices, like your dog walker's phone, even though it's sharing the location. Bluetooth-based tracking systems often rely on nearby devices for updates, and if your dog's collar is in a location with limited device signals (like inside the house or during walks), it might not update as frequently.

      2. Network of Devices: While your car's SmartTag might be surrounded by many potential devices (such as other people's phones, vehicles, or Wi-Fi networks), your dog's SmartTag might be more isolated. Even though you’re sharing location with the dog walker, the frequency of updates depends on how often their device interacts with the tag. If the tag is indoors or in a place where their phone doesn’t pick it up well, updates can be slower.

      3. Battery Saving Features: The SmartTag 2 may be programmed to update less frequently to save battery. If the tag senses that there are fewer devices nearby or if the connection to your phone is stable, it may reduce the frequency of updates to conserve energy.

      4. App or Firmware Issues: It’s also possible that there is a firmware or app-related issue with the SmartTag 2, causing it to be less responsive than the original tag. Checking for updates to the Samsung SmartThings app and the firmware of the SmartTag 2 might help improve its performance.

      5. Tag Configuration or Settings: Ensure that the tag is set up in the correct mode (e.g., the tracking mode) and that all relevant settings for location updates are configured properly.

I can confirm Battery saving is not on.

I have checked the firmware of the tracker and it says it's the latest version.

I have checked the app on the Google playstore, and there is no update available.

It doesn't explain why they were in the same place at the same time on Christmas day and the car outside performed better. As I said there were 9 phones in the same room as the dog. And whilst the car outside updated, my dogs tracker did not.
