I hope this isn't the case... the whole reason i moved to Samsung from iPhone this year was so i could use my OneDrive for photo sync with gallery instead of just backup on the iPhone.
This is a huge change and I'm surprised at Samsung there is no info/warnings or posts about this considering the latest OS is really close by.
Photo sync with Samsung gallery to OneDrive is brilliant!
At least give the option for either one and don't force everyone to completely cut over to a different cloud storage.

Whilst not officially confirmed all the signs are that photo Back Up will move to back to Samsung Cloud in April, the sync with One Drive will end when up and running. https://eu.community.samsung.com/t5/samsung-lounge/photo-syncing-with-one-drive-may-end/td-p/13275124
