Which Galaxy models will stop receiving software updates in 2026?
Samsung has just announced a list of Galaxy phone models whose software updates will end in 2026. This information helps users understand which devices will still receive software support.
In early 2026, Samsung announced a list of Galaxy devices that will officially stop receiving software updates. This decision presents many users with the choice to upgrade to protect their personal data. A number of previously popular devices will no longer receive regular security updates. This information is particularly noteworthy for models released since 2021.
According to BGR, the new roadmap indicates that February 2026 marks the end of support for the Galaxy S21 series after 5 years since its launch. The Note 20 series, the last iconic model with a removable S-Pen, has also officially stopped receiving updates. Users of older flagship models will feel a significant software limitation. This is seen as a preparation to make room for more modern devices.
Samsung has still been committed to supporting newer flagship models like the Galaxy S26 for up to 7 years. Newer flagship phones like the Galaxy S26 are still supported by Samsung for up to 7 years. At the same time, devices from 2021-2022 are gradually showing signs of software "aging." Not only the S Series, but also groundbreaking foldable phones such as the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 are downgraded to quarterly updates. The complete closure is expected in August, a point that users should pay attention to.
The middle and budget segments are similarly affected. Familiar devices such as the Galaxy A52 or A13 will receive final "comfort" patches. They will then be removed from the support list. This means that security flaws will not be patched, creating a potential risk to personal data.
Although the hardware remains stable, the lack of security updates is a serious problem. Sensitive applications such as banking and online payments are at high risk. Long-term users should carefully consider continuing to use older devices. Upgrading will be a safer option to protect personal information.
The middle and budget segments were similarly affected.
If you own one of the models that "retired" this year, now is a good time to consider upgrading. The new Galaxy models offer nearly a decade of software life. Users also benefit from improved security features and optimized performance, resulting in a smoother and safer experience compared to older devices.
In conclusion, Samsung's decision to withdraw support from the list is a strategic move aimed at focusing on new product lines. Users must proactively stay up to date to choose the right device. Upgrading to newer models allows them to benefit from longer support and better security. This decision protects both personal data and optimizes the smartphone experience in the long term.

I will use it as guidance the next time I need to upgrade since planned obsolescence is something that I refuse to take part in if I have the ability to do so.
