5G Power Consumption Optimization Gap vs iOS Devices

Question

Samsung Galaxy S-series devices exhibit significantly higher battery consumption when 5G is enabled, particularly under NSA conditions and weak signal environments. Key observed issues: Excessive persistence on 5G even when throughput benefit is negligible Inefficient 5G ⇄ LTE switching causing continuous modem wake cycles High power state residency under unstable signal conditions Lack of adaptive fallback comparable to iOS Smart Data Mode Background apps aggressively utilizing 5G bandwidth without strict throttling Suggested improvements: Implement intelligent LTE fallback based on real-time throughput and signal quality Reduce NSA dual connectivity overhead Introduce stricter background network scheduling policies Optimize modem power state transitions under low-demand scenarios Add user-level “adaptive 5G efficiency mode” Expected outcome: Improved real-world battery performance without compromising peak throughput.
