what is developer option? what are its merits/demerits? I just turned it on, will it have any effect on phone functions in any way?

Don't mess anything in that window if you are not familiar with system operations. It may cause serious problems which are reversible but you have to remember what changes you have done to get it reversed.

without touching other options just reduce the 3 animation scales from 1x to 0.5x. it will make your phone faster. but please dont play with other options.

Thanks for part of Samsung community. There are many options that allow you to simulate app stresses or enable debugging options. Android Developer Options allow you to enable debugging over USB, capture bug reports on to your Android device, and show CPU usage on screen to measure the impact of your software.
