I added a Smart tag to the dog we babysit collar. It takes 12 hours to update the location after the dog goes home. The owners use IPhone so when it does update it shows up at a neighbour's house. One day the dog was traveling around in a car and it stopped tracking for hours. It looked like the dog was at a very busy intersection for hours and we got worried. It's not very reliable at all.

      Hi SgtStubby,

We completely understand how stressful it must have been to see the tracking stop at a busy intersection. When caring for a pet, peace of mind is everything, and we truly empathize with your worry.

The Galaxy SmartTag2 requires Samsung Galaxy devices to update its location and is not compatible with iPhones.

Because the dog's owners use iPhones, the tag cannot use their phones to sync. Instead, it relies on passing nearby Samsung phones. This explains the tracking issues you experienced:

      • No Galaxy Devices Nearby: The tag has no GPS. It only updates when a Samsung phone passes within 120 meters. If no Samsung users are nearby, the location will not refresh for hours.
      • Delayed Data Sync: If a passing Samsung phone has weak data, the location uploads late. This makes it look like the dog is blocks away or stuck at an old intersection.
      • Phone Settings: If nearby Samsung phones have Bluetooth or location services turned off, they cannot detect the tag.
      • Battery Glitches: A loose or low battery can cause the tag to drop its connection intermittently.

If there are Galaxy devices around, the location will be updated quite frequently. You can also manually refresh it to request an update, but again, it needs Galaxy devices nearby. It is not real-time, but it provides a track history so that you can look back at all the recorded times.

She goes home around 5pm and I sometimes walk her home. But the tag doesn't show her new location until the next morning. It usually shows her at a neighbour's house

We request that you perform the following troubleshooting steps and let us know:

      • Remove the tag from the app: Open the SmartThings app, navigate to the devices tab, select your SmartTag, and choose the option to Remove device.
      • Reinstall the SmartThings app: Uninstall the SmartThings app from your phone entirely, then download and reinstall it from the Google Play Store or Galaxy Store to clear out any corrupted background cache.
      • Add the SmartTag back: Reset your SmartTag, open the newly installed SmartThings app, and follow the on-screen prompts to Add device and re-pair the tag to your account.

This information should be updated at least every 15 minutes.

They want me to delete the smart things app but I have a few tags and lights and cameras controlled by the app so there's no way I am going down that road. The tag was working OK before I made it a pet tag.
But these Tag 2 were a problem since I bought them. I had to return them for warranty as they were eating batteries like crazy. I believe they fixed the battery issue with software update.

      Hi SgtStubby,

We suggest following the steps below to reset your device:

How to Reset the Samsung SmartTag:
      • Open the battery cover by inserting your fingertip into the notch at the bottom of the SmartTag and gently pulling it off.
      • Remove the battery and press the central button on the SmartTag.
      • While continuing to hold the button, reinsert the battery into the SmartTag.
      • Keep holding the button for five seconds, then release it.
      • Snap the battery cover back into place. The SmartTag is now reset.

Once the reset is complete, you can safely re-pair it to your SmartThings Find network without affecting any of your other lights or cameras.
