I don't wear my watch every day and usually it sits on my nightstand next to where I put my phone. I keep getting messages that my backups are not saved to Samsung Cloud but I can see that it is being saved to the phone.

He was last saved to cloud one month ago. Why is this?

No guarantee but Google "samsung watch change backup destination to cloud" for some suggestions" With other devices you can change the backup setting, not sure whether for Samsung backup or Google backup, to sd card/usb/device? and that might be where you can change a setting.
